At Belsay Primary School, we firmly believe that mental health and well-being are the foundation of a happy, successful, and thriving school community. Supporting the emotional health of our pupils, staff, and families is central to everything we do.

Children who feel safe, valued, and supported are more likely to reach their full potential academically and personally. Mental well-being empowers children to embrace challenges, build resilience, and foster positive relationships. At Belsay, we are committed to creating a nurturing environment where all pupils feel they belong, are listened to, and have the confidence to express their feelings.

We take a proactive approach to well-being, embedding it in our curriculum and school culture. From mindfulness activities and emotional literacy lessons to providing safe spaces for open conversations, we aim to equip children with the tools they need to navigate the ups and downs of life.

We also recognise the importance of working together with families to support mental health. Open communication between school and home helps ensure children feel consistently cared for and understood. By collaborating, we can better address individual needs and celebrate the uniqueness of every child.

The well-being of our staff is equally vital. A positive and supportive environment for teachers and staff directly benefits the quality of education and care we provide. A school that prioritises mental health is a school where everyone—students, staff, and families—can flourish.

At Belsay Primary School, we don’t just view mental health as an additional consideration; it is a core part of who we are. Together, let’s ensure our children grow into confident, compassionate, and capable individuals ready to make the most of their futures.
